  • CDBS bulk billing for eligible children
  • Pram-friendly, ground floor, no steps

Juggling school, work and weekend sport makes it easy to put off your kids' check-ups, and your own. Maybe your child has a sore tooth, or you're not sure when their first visit should be. As a family dentist in Bannockburn VIC, we see children and parents at our High Street clinic, and we bulk bill eligible children under CDBS. That care is part of our dental clinic care for adults and kids, so nobody in the family needs to drive to Geelong.

When You Need a Family Dentist

Bring your child in if:

  • their first teeth have come through and they haven't had a check-up yet;
  • a tooth hurts, or they avoid chewing on one side;
  • you can see white, brown or dark spots on a tooth;
  • their gums bleed when they brush;
  • a tooth has been chipped or knocked in play or sport.

Baby teeth matter: they help children chew and speak, and they hold space for adult teeth. Decay in a baby tooth can still cause pain and infection. Many dental problems are simpler to treat when they're found early. If your child has a toothache, it's a good idea to have it checked soon. Call and we'll find the earliest suitable time. If your kids play contact sport, ask about mouthguards for junior footy and netball.

Our Family Dentist Process

At a child's visit:

  1. Talk. We ask about your child's health, any medicines, and how they brush and eat. If your child is nervous, tell us when you book.
  2. Check. The dentist looks at their teeth and gums and how new teeth are coming through. X-rays are taken only when needed; they use a low dose of radiation.
  3. Clean and advice. Plaque is cleaned off if needed, and you get brushing tips. The dentist may suggest fluoride.
  4. Plan. We explain what we found, your options and any fees before treatment starts.

If we find a cavity, we'll talk you through white fillings when a child has a cavity. Numbing may be needed, and the tooth can feel tender afterwards. Check-ups are usually every six months. Parents can book a check-up and clean for adults in the family too.

Family Dentist Cost in Bannockburn

The cost of your family's visits depends on whether your child is eligible for CDBS, whether they need X-rays or fluoride, what other treatment is needed, and your health fund cover. For eligible children, we bulk bill care covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (Services Australia). If something isn't covered, we'll explain your options and what each one costs before any treatment starts. We accept all health funds and claim on the spot with HICAPS. See fees, CDBS and health fund details.

Common Questions About Family Dentistry in Bannockburn

Our FAQ page has more questions from Bannockburn parents.

When should my child first see a dentist in Bannockburn?

A good time for your child's first dental visit in Bannockburn is when their first teeth come through, or by their first birthday. An early visit lets the dentist check how the teeth are coming in and gives you tips on brushing and food. Call us to book, and read our new patient details for children and parents.

Who qualifies for CDBS bulk billing at a Bannockburn dentist?

A child qualifies for CDBS if Services Australia finds them eligible. It's means-tested and linked to certain payments from Services Australia, so not every child qualifies. If your child is eligible, we bulk bill the care CDBS covers at our Bannockburn clinic. Read about CDBS bulk billing and health fund claims.

What happens at my child's first dental visit in Bannockburn?

At your child's first dental visit in Bannockburn, the dentist talks with you about their health and habits, then checks their teeth, gums and how new teeth are coming through. X-rays are taken only if they're needed. Before any further treatment, we explain what we found and what each option costs. You can also read how a routine dental check-up works.

Are the dentists who see children at your Bannockburn clinic registered?

Yes. Every dentist at our Bannockburn clinic is registered with Ahpra, the national regulator for health practitioners, as the law requires for dentists in Australia. Our dentists are Dr Tasneem, who owns the practice, and Dr Vivek Juneja. You can read about the dentists your family would see before your visit.

Can we book family dental visits on a Saturday in Bannockburn?

Yes, our Bannockburn clinic is open on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, so children don't need to miss school for a check-up. We're also open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, and closed on Sundays. To book more than one family member, call (03) 4217 3810 and we'll look for times that work for you. Check parking, pram access and directions before you come.

What should I do if my child chips or knocks out a tooth?

If your child chips, cracks or knocks out a tooth, call us during opening hours, and we fit emergency patients in between booked appointments wherever we can. Don't put a knocked-out baby tooth back in, but keep a knocked-out adult tooth in milk and bring it with you. For a head injury or heavy bleeding, call triple zero (000).
